Keep on Runnin

I took a leap into the "Runner's World" today.  I did the unimaginable and signed up for the half marathon. So excited and a little nervous.  It is the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon held this year on April 29th.  It is a tribute to the victims and survivors of the Oklahoma City Bombing.  My longest competitive run is 3.14 miles and the longest I have ever ran is 5 miles.  It wouldn't be a stretch to say I am a little out of my element.  This week I am up to 4.5 miles so hopefully I can keep up the intensity.  Let's be honest though their is one thing motivating me above all- that 13.1 sticker I'll be able to put on the back of my car.  It is better than any trophy I can put on a dusty shelf.  It is bragging rights to all those cars behind me.  I may have to start speeding to get in front of more people and get a new car to match my new sticker.  Or I may have to stop getting ahead of myself before I can even run half the distance this race calls for.  For now I will just have to make a good running playlist and try not to get shin splints.  To all my followers, I am expecting big cheers and maybe a poster as I cross that finish line ;)

New Housewife New Terminology

I've been a newlywed for all of two months now.  I was never a big cook, I would try and fail.  Whether it be adding mozzarella cheese instead of parmesan in the fettuccine or burning the stove covers, something is always going wrong in my kitchen.  Today was no different, I have been taking a cake decorating class (which should show you right there, I really do try to be a better cook), we have to make our own icing and bring it to class.  This morning I'm in the kitchen slaving away, I have my mom's mixer a spinning when my brother walks in to inform me that my icing looks like mashed potatoes.  At that my husband walks in and reads the recipe.  "Did you use confectioner's sugar?" he asked.  "I dont know" I replied.  "I just used whatever sugar we had in the cabinet." With that he goes on to tell me that confectioner's sugar is powdered sugar. OK really? Really? Who came up with that name? Why can't you call it what it is? Powdered sugar.  Dont try to fancy it up and make it difficult to us new housewives.  We don't need the trade name just give us the generic name.  Oh the trails and errors of a young wife.  For now I guess I'll let my husband correct my ingredient mishaps,  but you better believe next time I read the words confectioner's sugar I will be grabbing for the right bag.

Raced for a Cure

Woke up to my 6:30 am alarm to deck out in my pink and run for a cause.  This morning I ran in the Oklahoma City Susan G. Koman race for the cure.  I have done quite a few 5K's through the years, but never have I experienced something like this.  Usually when I sign up for a 5K I sign up for me, to beat my personal best time or to give me motivation to start running again.  On this particular race I was running for those women who were diagnosed and have battled against breast cancer. Running beside me through that 3.14 miles were people with shirts of faces or names.  They were running in celebration or in memory of and it was very warming to be a part of something that big that could touch the hearts of 18,500 people in Oklahoma City who all came together for one reason. HOPE.FOR.A.CURE.
